I think what you describe is a common experience. Those who consider themselves holy often have very, very little clue about the depths of evil within themselves. At the other end of the spectrum, if someone were holy, they probably wouldn't notice it. And in the middle are vast numbers of us, knowing we're not holy, hungering and thirsting for righteousness.
